AI technology and the challenges to values development in university education

Abstract

: The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is fundamentally reshaping university education systems worldwide. This article examines the challenges posed by the integration of AI to students’ values development and proposes contextually appropriate responses for Mongolia’s higher education sector, drawing on comparative international evidence. It argues that the proliferation of generative AI tools carries a substantial risk of eroding foundational academic values — including integrity, independent reasoning, interpersonal accountability, and a sense of personal responsibility — and that this risk necessitates a systematic reform of both curricular content and pedagogical methodology.
